Product Description

Known as the ‘Steel of the Ancients,’ Damascus knives and swords have lived in legend since the creation of Damascus steel nearly 2000 years ago. The city of Damascus was one of the centers of production of this steel. That, and the fact that this steel resembled the damask cloth both having the ‘water-marked’ pattern as the steel, and also produced in the same city, gave rise to this steel’s name. Damascus steel combine steels of different properties and produces blades with extraordinary toughness and edge retention. Viewed under the microscope, the cutting edge displays tiny saw-tooth carbides, which are formed by forging in a coal fire. This combined with superb flexibility enables the blade to cut even when it feels dull to the touch. Every piece of Damascus is as unique as a thumbprint and a stunning example of a master craftsman’s art.

Bear & Son Cutlery (formerly Bear MGC) is an innovative American cutlery manufacturer with a rich tradition. The highest quality materials and years of experience in knife making combine to make their knives comfortable in hand, a beauty to behold and still tough enough to go the distance. Bear offers you that feeling with a little history and memories. They have a skilled and experienced work force capable of performing many of the extra hand operations that go into the making of our products. The Bear & Son Cutlery factory is unique. It is full self-contained. While some companies only assemble parts brought from various suppliers and put their names on the product, they do everything in-house from building their own blanking dies to heat treating, grinding and assembly, and hand finishing our products. These steps insure that Bear & Son cutlery is of excellent quality and a real. Their ongoing commitment is to make them in America and make them affordable. When you carry a knife there is always a little part of you that is looking for a reason to take it out. If you are going to have to live with that feeling you may as well reach for the finest pocket knife in the world.
