8" Chef's Knife - Mu Series
8″ Chef’s Knife
The Chef’s Knife, also known as a Cook’s Knife or French Knife, is the most versatile knife in the kitchen and thus the most used blade style by professional chefs. The broad bladed knife has a spine which gradually tapers to the cambered, cutting edge and creates a pointed tip. Because of this geometry, this is the one knife that should be well balanced with weight distributed equally between the handle and the blade. The Chef’s Knife is the flagship of cutlery. The blade is shaped so that it can peel, trim, slice, dice, chop, mince, vegetables, fillet fish, and cut meat. Each part of the knife is designed to perform a different task. It is the flagship of cutlery.
The Mu knife story begins with the ancient Zen philosophy. When discussing Zen Buddhism, one often encounters the character for emptiness, mu, in expressions such as “no self,” “no ego,” “no holiness,” and “no permanence.” It is through the actual experience of mu — which means transcending affirmation and negation, being and non-being — that satori or spiritual awakening occurs and one can finally come to realize the essential spirit of Zen. The literal translation from Japanese is “none” or “without” meaning that the answer to a question may neither be right or wrong thus leading to the universally derived Mu knife collection. The knives are a fusion of East and West combining the best of both cultures. The bamboo handles are a natural and environmentally friendly material. The steel is vintage high carbon molybdenum vanadium stock that has been expertly heat treated and ground to a razor sharp edge. The Mu knife design and style is truly international and the quality superb.
