American Hunting - Carbon V
Red River Knives are Cold Steel’s versions of historic knife designs that originate a century or more ago. The American Hunter is a classic design that is hundreds of years old and traces its origins to Sheffield cutlers and was quickly adopted by 19th century American manufacturers. Its unique shape is commonly used for everything from pocket knife blades to massive Bowie knives.
The 1/8” thick steel used in the blade is Cold Steel’s famous Carbon V which is specialty smelted and rolled exclusively for them. After each blade is blanked, it is stress relieved and the heat treated and quench in a special agitated oil bath. To assure maximum strength and flexibility, the blades are then triple tempered. This costly step, while time consuming, assures optimum internal grain structure and performance.
Finally, to assure the most efficient cutting, slicing, and shearing potential, each blade is carefully flat ground from top to bottom on state-of-the-art German CNC Grinders that precision grind to extra thin (15/1000”) before final sharpening. This creates a razor sharp edge that is easily resharpened and cuts with ease.
The handle are simply made from two slabs of hickory that are permanently secured to the full tang with solid brass cutlers rivets. This construction method, while simple and relatively inexpensive, has proved durable and will yield years of hard service.
The sheaths for the Red River line are made of sturdy dark brown leather and for safety, features riveted construction and a internal hard fiber liner.
