UKIMON - Temple of the Golden Pavilion
G. SAKAI―The harmony of traditional craftsman skills and advanced technology.
The Ukimon is a small, money clip knife with a twist: the obverse scale of each Ukimon knife features a recreation of famous Ukiyo-e artistic prints. These images are done using a unique process involving raised printing and UV radiation. This technique is similar to screen printing is used to color the images. The result is finely textured renditions of famous Japanese works of art. The Ukimon is a tribute to Japanese craftsmanship, by traditional craftsmen.
This Ukimon features the “Kinkakuji no Kureyuki” by meaning The Golden Pavilion in Snow by Japanese artist Kawase Hasui. Known for his exquisite landscape prints, Hasui was one of the most prolific and talented shin hanga artists of the early 20th century.
To compliment the beautiful artwork, this knife uses woodgrain stainless Damascus with a VG-10 core with a Samurai sword blade (Katana) nail mark.
