Nord - Curly Birch
Nord (North) is more than a direction. It also represents strength, darkness during winter and light during summer. The extreme shifts in nature between the seasons, the connection to nature and the effect it has on us for that same reason is how those at Helle see themselves as a part of the culture of the north. The Nord knife, in development for over two years, is designed to meet the demands of the Scandinavian Wilderness. Sprung out of their traditions as knifemakers and taken one step further than what is normally seen from Helle. This knife combines their history with how they have developed as a new outdoor generation. Sometimes using their tools differently than what their ancestors would have done. With a Sandvik 14C28N blade and a sharp shine it will take on most challenges thrown at it. Still thin enough for cutting properties and strong enough for most tasks on your adventures.
Held close to the blade, it offers great balance and performs exceptionally well for carving and general cutting. Held further to the back, it offers a heavy swing weight for clearing smaller branches.
Since early times, the Norwegian knife has been an important companion in everyday life. Norwegian knife manufacturing today is clearly influenced by traditional shapes and materials that were established hundreds of years ago. A well-made leather sheath and handles of wood, leather, and antler seem to be a legacy that Norwegians want to preserve. A/S Helle Fabrikker is dedicated to honoring this legacy by developing knives that are on the leading edge of technology, yet still maintain the traditional look and feel of a truly Norwegian knife. Unique in Helle knives is the laminated stainless steel used to produce a tough, razor-sharp blade. The technology was developed by their company in cooperation with a Norwegian steel mill. This high performance steel is available only in their knives and gives each blade a unique combination of high strength and long lasting sharpness. Laminated steel is another Norwegian tradition that is rarely found in other parts of the world.
