23KLRU - Bear Leuku - Curly Birch & Antler
The “Bear Leuku” is a larger camp knife designed in the style of the traditional camp knife of the Sami, who are indigenous to the far northern region of Scandinavia. It is used for butchering game, building shelters, skinning, and chopping wood. These are large, serious knives designed for serious wilderness chores. The large, shaped handle makes it easier to keep a firm grip on the knife when wearing gloves or mittens. The handle is made from Brown Pakkawood polished to a smooth finish, and has both an inset for your index finger, and a hooked pommel made of reindeer antler, so the knife will never slip out of your hand. The full-length tang is evident by the brass nut on the pommel, giving this knife added durability. When you hold this knife in your hand, you can feel the solid construction and high quality.
The sheath is nicely detailed with stamped and stained artwork, it contains a plastic liner to prevent the very sharp blade from slicing through, and the belt loop is a twisted leather cord, which allows the knife to swing freely and keep out of the way when you’re crouching or sitting.
The blades are made from 80CrV2 high carbon steel and created by Laurin Metalli Oy in Kauhava Finland. All have full Scandi grinds with wide gradually tapering tangs. This makes for a very stout knife. The carbon steel blades have the coloration of the heat treatment left on the upper sides of the blade with glazed edge bevels. These knives are made to be used.
