The Trachtenmesser is part of the traditional Bavarian costume and is carried in a specified pocket in Lederhosen. These traditional folk knives have a long history dating back to the early 15th century and before during Medieval times and were the personal carry knives used for daily activities for all types of cutting and eating. Visit the world-famous Munich Oktoberfest where the Trachtenmesser has become an accessory decoration to be proudly displayed with this type of dress. Much like the Scottish Sgian Dubh or Scandinavian Puukko.
