PITS - Blue Titanium / N690Co
Designed by British knifemaker Mike Read, Spyderco’s PITS Folder is a supremely functional non-locking folding knife intended for serious use. Drawing its name from Read’s Internet forum name—“Pie in the Sky”—the latest expression of the PITS Folder features a handsome blue color-anodized titanium handle.
The heart of the PITS Folder is a broad, full-flat-ground, clip-point blade made from Böhler-Uddeholm N690Co steel—a chromium steel enhanced with cobalt, molybdenum, and vanadium alloys. Its Trademark Round Hole allows convenient one-handed opening with either hand, while an integral guard at the base of the edge protects the user’s hand and helps prevent unintentional closure during use.
The PITS Folder’s handle is constructed from meticulously machined solid titanium scales that are bead blasted to a matte finish and then color anodized a stunning blue hue. Skeletonized to reduce weight, the scales also form the foundation of the knife’s unique slipjoint mechanism. Long machined slots at the top of each handle scale create integral spring arms that are connected by a hardened pin. When the blade is open, this pin applies pressure on the tang of the blade to stabilize it in the open position. A reversible deep-pocket wire clip provides convenient left or right-side tip-up carry and helps ensure that both carry and one-handed operation of the PITS Folder are completely ambidextrous.
One of the most capable non-locking folders ever produced, the PITS Folder is a socially friendly, legally permissible knife that offers serious cutting performance.
