Crucible Industries’ CPM 15V is an extraordinary material that offers the highest wear resistance of any cold-work tool steel available today. Containing almost 15 percent vanadium, its unique alloy composition creates an exceptionally high volume of vanadium carbides in its microstructure, making it a viable alternative to solid carbide in the production of intricate industrial tool designs. In knife blades, these properties translate to breathtaking cutting performance and edge retention. Spyderco is very proud to feature CPM 15V in several limited-edition Sprint Run expressions of select American-made models. The blades of this elite family of knives are further enhanced by a specialized heat-treating protocol developed by acclaimed custom knifemaker Shawn Houston. Specifically tuned to each “melt” of CPM 15V, this painstaking process maximizes the extraordinary properties of this steel to yield blades capable of extreme sharpness and unparalleled edge retention. To distinguish these remarkable knives even further, they feature brown peel-ply-textured G-10 or fiberglass reinforced-nylon (FRN) scales and Shawn Houston’s “Triple B” logo laser engraved on the reverse side of the blades. All other aspects of these ultrahigh-performance knives are consistent with the standard configurations of these models.
