Spyderco’s Para Military 2 has long been one of the most in-demand folding knives on the market. The latest version of this incredibly popular design, the C81GPBLBK2, raises the bar even higher, combining all its proven features with the extreme cutting performance and edge retention of premium Böhler-Uddeholm M390 blade steel.

The Austrian’s Böhler Group merged with Sweden’s Uddeholm Steel Works in 1991, creating the world’s largest tool steel manufacturer, Böhler-Uddeholm. Specializing in aerospace and automotive steels, they also produce tool steels used in the manufacture of consumer goods including electronics and cutlery. They produce M390 Microclean steel through a powdered metallurgy processes, that is highly sought and well suited to today’s high-performance cutlery. M390 is a martensitic chromium steel highly resistant to corrosion. The powdered granules of Chromium and Vanadium carbides in the steel are small, consistently sized, and finely dispersed in the steel’s matrix (mix) making it exceptionally homogeneous, creating a high-level wear and corrosion.

In this Para Military 2’s the blade is full-flat ground with a Tungsten DLC coating and distally tapered for a remarkable balance of strength, low-friction cutting performance, and point utility, this translates to best-in-class cutting performance and outstanding edge retention. True to Spyderco form, the blade also features a Trademark Round Hole for quick, reliable one-handed opening with either hand.

Like other versions of the Para Military 2, this knife features nested skeletonized stainless steel liners and Spyderco’s patented Compression Lock mechanism—a high-strength lock that allows the knife’s blade to be safely and easily closed with one hand. The liners are contained within precision-machined textured G-10 scales that boast the vibrant blue color. Stainless steel stand-offs and a lined lanyard hole create an open-backed handle construction that minimizes weight and allows easy cleaning and maintenance. To ensure convenient carry and instant access, the handle also features a four-position hourglass clip that supports left or right-side tip-up or tip-down carry.
