413 - Hand Hatchet -
The distinguishing feature of the Gränsfors Hand Hatchet is its short handle relative to the size of its head. It is extremely practical to carry in your rucksack on forest walks, or to keep in the car as it takes up very little space. The shape of the sheath, which covers the edge and the top part of the poll, also stops the axe head cutting into your rucksack. The Hand Hatchet makes an excellent scouting and camping axe. Despite its short handle, the axe can be used to fell small trees. It is also great for limbing and for splitting kindling and firewood. In Sweden this little hatchet is called “Gränsfors Kubben” (Bowler Hatchet). The axe face has a 2½’’” cutting edge and a 10″ hickory handle. Comes with a full grain leather sheath (cover) and a copy of The Axe Book. Weight: 1.5 lbs.
Produced by highly skilled blacksmiths, Gränsfors Bruk axes are forged from a special Swedish steel developed for axes. The proof of their forging prowess is such that no supplementary work (grinding or painting), that would hide imperfections and mistakes, is necessary. The blades are hardened and tempered to the correct toughness for maximum performance. The handles are made from first quality American hickory, properly fitted and wedged to the axe head, that are then oiled and provided with a grain-leather cover. All steps in production are carefully tested and checked. When finished, the smith stamps each head with the company stamp and his initials as a testament to his skill and pride.
