Three Piece Sharpening System - Shun Classic
Three Piece Whetstone Sharpening System
START SHARPENING ON A WHETSTONE THE EASY WAY
The Shun Three Piece Sharpening System is the easy way to learn how to sharpen your knives yourself using a whetstone. Because of the slant of the bamboo stand, all you need to do to ensure your knife is at the proper angle when sharpening is to keep the blade flat and parallel to the working surface as you pull it across the stone. Once you’ve sharpened your knife, you can maintain the edge for a longer period of time by honing regularly. The included honing steel can be used in the stand or on its own. The Shun Three Piece Sharpening System includes our Shun 1000/6000-Grit Combination Whetstone, Shun Honing Steel, and the special, angled bamboo stand. The Shun Combination Whetstone is a double-sided Japanese waterstone. You will need to thoroughly soak this whetstone before sharpening.
AT THE PEAK OF PERFECTION
In Japan, “shun” (pronounced shoon) is the word used to describe local, seasonal food at the very peak of its flavor and freshness. Shun is a time—the exact moment—when a fruit has reached its perfect ripeness, when a vegetable is at its very best, when meat is at its most flavorful. Home cooks and professional chefs alike celebrate shun in their kitchens, eagerly awaiting each season’s bounty and serving every ingredient in its proper time. Kai named their fine cutlery Shun to honor this tradition of seasonal, mindful eating and as a mark of their dedication to making kitchen cutlery that is always at the peak of its perfection, too.
So now you know; just say, “Shoon” (rhymes with “moon”) for kitchen cutlery that’s designed to help keep your freshest ingredients at their very best.
